The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) is currently telling our travelers that now is not the time to visit. Now is a time to PAUSE, reconnect with loved ones, and find safe, healthy adventures close to home. We will be here when the time is right.

ROOST is committed to ensuring that every experience in the Adirondacks is the best it can be by providing up-to-date information. The safety of our residents is our highest priority, and we want you to have the resources you need to make informed decisions.

  • Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory – Offering free and fun activities and games on paper sheets. These will be available just outside the office door located at 36 High Street in Tupper Lake.

  • Adirondack Mountain Club – Lake Placid, NY & Keene Valley, NY. (Hiker parking will remain open, though rentals, all lodging, and trail information will not be available. March 16 – April 30)
  • Cobble Mountain – Closed via the Northwood School trailhead. Hikers can access the trail via the DEC Rt. 86 trailhead or the “Purple Trail” access via Mt. Whitney Road or Cobble Hill Road.
  • Community Bank, NA – Lake Placid, NY and Saranac Lake, NY (Closed to lobby traffic. Drive through window in Saranac Lake is open as well as ATMs. Both are staffed to accept calls. Lake Placid (518) 523-9535, Saranac Lake (518) 891-2900).
  • High Peaks Resort – At this time they are only accepting reservations from emergency responders and essential personnel. They are accepting reservations for the future – summer and beyond.
  • DEC-controlled fire towers are closed to the public. Trails and the summits to the towers remain open.
  • State campgrounds are CLOSED for the 2020 season. Trails, state parks, and historic sites are open to the public for singles, couples, and families.
