Motorists are advised that a paving project on a stretch of Route 74 in Ticonderoga and Schroon, in Essex County, began on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Work will occur from just east of Letsonville Road to just west of the causeway at Eagle Lake, a stretch of approximately 2.6 miles. During the work — which began with cold-in-place recycling of the old pavement and laying new pavement starting approximately Oct. 19 — motorists will encounter alternating single closures controlled by flaggers from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. The weather-permitting work is expected to be completed by Oct. 23. It is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully in the vicinity of this construction zone, for their own safety and the safety of workers. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license. The Wild Center is seeking artists to submit work for a new juried art exhibit called The Forest and the Trees, opening in May 6, 2016. All media is encouraged. All art for the exhibit will be selected by a multi-disciplinary jury of scientists, educators, curators, and artists. LAKE PLACID — Individuals looking for work in the Lake Placid region can maximize their efforts by attending the Lake Placid Winter Job Fair. The semiannual job fair features booths for some of the area’s best employers recruiting for a variety of jobs, including retail, restaurant, hospitality, and organizations like the Olympic Regional Development Authority. Full-time, part-time and seasonal positions will be available. There will also be incentives and assistance with places to live, daycare and transportation, all important things to for potential workers to consider. Job seekers should bring copies of their resume and be ready to chat about all the great opportunities in the Lake Placid area. The job fair runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Conference Center at Lake Placid. Businesses can still sign up to participate for free, and the Olympic Regional Development Authority will waive the sign-up fee for its Whiteface Hospitality Discount Card for all businesses that participate in the job fair.
