Fall fun at OkTUPPERfest 2014
Contact: Adam Baldwin Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce events manager 518-359-3328 events@tupperlake.com TUPPER LAKE — It’s not really fall until you celebrate it at OkTUPPERfest. The event will be held at the Big Tupper Ski Area from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Admission is $5 per person or $20 per vehicle. Tupper Lake’s annual take on the traditional German Oktoberfest, OkTUPPERfest, will feature new fun fall activities, plus great music and even helicopter rides. One of the the event’s new features is a hay bale maze that will entertain and challenge kids. It is set to open at noon. Adults will also have a new event to participate in: the Pumpkin Slingshot Contest. It’s exactly what it sounds like, and it starts at 2 p.m. Enter to compete for prizes for the most accurate and farthest shots. Chair lift rides are free with admission, so plan to ride up the mountain for great views of the turning leaves. But for those who want an extra intense fall foliage experience, North Country Heliflite will offer helicopter rides at a great rate, as long as the weather cooperates. Two bands will entertain the crowds throughout the day. At 1:30 p.m., Give ‘em Hell Harry is set to take the stage. The local duo of brothers Ben and Andrew McClelland will play their amazing riffs and unique covers. Then from 4 to 6 p.m., local legends Sling Shot will rock the crowd with their classic rock stylings. For nearly 20 years, Max Gerstenberger, Glen Gonyea, Rob Burnell, along with Ivan McNamara, have entertained the North Country, so come rock out with them. Along with all these great activities, there will also be sack races, apple bobbing, a watermelon-eating contest, a craft fair, raffles and a ski swap. “OkTUPPERfest is a Tupper Lake tradition,” said Tupper Lake Events Manager Adam Baldwin. “This event is pet friendly, so pack the whole family and the dog into the car and come up for a day full of fall fun.” For more information and a full schedule of events, go to www.tupperlake.com/oktupperfest-saturday-september-27-2014 or like OkTUPPERfest on Facebook.

ROOST unveils website at mixer

The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism unveiled its new website, adirondacksusa.com, at a successful Business After Hours event earlier this month.
More than 80 area businesspeople, elected officials and other interested individuals attended the event, hosted at our headquarters and catered by Centerplate. ROOST employees Jasen Lawrence, who is coding the new site, and Shaun Ondak, who is shooting photos for it, treated attendees to a demonstration of the 360-degree-photo tour of the Adirondacks now available on adirondacksusa.com. Our conference sales team, Mary Jane Lawrence, Ashley Andrews and Scott Gardner, gave tours of the Conference Center at Lake Placid (and made sure to tell everyone that locals who refer a conference to them can get a reward for it!).

CEO Jim McKenna explained to the crowd what each department in the office is responsible for and what we do here at ROOST. As usual, he noted that our emphasis is on creating sustainable communities throughout our Adirondack regions through encouraging tourism in the right way.
When Jim speaks, people listen.
The communications staff hosted two reporters, who learned about the new website alongside the crowd and got a chance to learn more about it from Jasen and Shaun. Their photo made the front page of the Valley News. The Lake Placid News also ran coverage.
