Special Event: Relive the Miracle
It happened in our backyard... Reunion Our region was host to the greatest sports moment of the 20th century, and one that inspired a nation to believe in miracles. 35 years ago in Lake Placid, the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team beat the odds, and the Soviet Union. And now we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate that historic event with our neighbors and the members of the team that achieved the impossible. RELIVE THE MIRACLE Be there for a special multi-media presentation at the Olympic Center on Saturday, Feb. 21, beginning at 7:30 p.m. With first-person accounts from members of the 1980 team, audio, video, interviews, testimonials and mementos never seen before, this promises to be a momentous night that will appeal to more than just hockey fans and history buffs; it is a celebration of a very significant part of the Adirondack region’s heritage. THE WORLD IS WATCHING For those who have them, attendees are encouraged to wear their authentic 1980 Winter Olympic memorabilia. This event will be covered by several major media networks, including NBC, CNN, FOX and ESPN. We’re expecting to fill the arena, and to recreate the rafter-rattling, emotional and electric atmosphere that filled the air there 35 years ago! SPECIAL SUNDAY EVENTS The Relive the Miracle event on Saturday is part of the eighth annual Hockey Weekend Across America, a three-day nationwide celebration of the sport. On Sunday, NBC will host a live studio show from the Olympic Speed Skating Oval in Lake Placid. Visitors and residents are invited to take advantage of FREE open skating from noon to 8 p.m. and free hockey clinics all afternoon at the oval! TICKETS General admission for the event will be $19.80 and can be purchased at the Olympic Center Box Office or online at www.miracleonicereunion.com.
Maple Match Up 2015 - Calling all chefs
Following last year’s successful Tastes of Maple event, the Lake Placid Business Association (LPBA) is asking all local chefs to share their maple-inspired dishes with the public again. The 2015 event will once again be held at the Conference Center at Lake Placid on Saturday, March 28th from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. The event will also feature the Maple Match Up portion during which visitors will taste maple syrup from different producers around the area and vote on which is their favorite. The LPBA is hoping to grow this event to be even bigger and better and to add live music and a winter farmers market, so… They really need your participation. Chefs: all you have to do is: • Prepare an item for a tasting using real New York State maple. • Pay a $25 deposit needed to confirm your participation. (This will only be cashed in if you commit and do not show up at the event) • Confirm your participation by emailing Olivia Zeis and send in your deposit by March 6th. What your restaurant will receive: Your business will be featured on the maple weekend page of lakeplacid.com and listed in a brochure featuring your special maple dish. The brochure will be widely distributed during both Northeast New York Maple Producers Maple Weekends. How it will work: Attendees can purchase tasting tickets for $1 a piece. The tasting portion prices will range from $1-$3. Each restaurant will keep 50% of the income produced from their booth; the other 50% goes to the ensuring the Maple Weekend is a success. There is limited space available. To confirm your participation please email Olivia at Olivia@golden-arrow.com and send your deposit of $25 to the attention of Olivia Zeis at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, 2559 Main Street Lake Placid, NY 12946, or drop off at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort front desk.

Marketing opportunity: ILNY Shopping Promotion
I Love New York Shopping Promotion The Retail Council and I Love NY are partnering on a short-term promotional effort encouraging Canadians to visit New York State for a shopping getaway from March 15-31, 2015. This is an opportunity for you to bring more shoppers into your store AND boost the New York State retail industry. The promotion will include a coupon with a discount of at least 10%, downloadable from www.iloveny.com. Each participating retailer will have the opportunity to decide if they would like to honor the minimum 10% discount or offer a higher percentage discount. The coupons would be valid for brick-and-mortar stores only and not for online purchases. I Love NY will promote the program in Montreal and Toronto with a television commercial, paid media, and digital content. Although the program will be promoted in Canada, it will not be limited to Canadians. NYS and out of state residents will be eligible to use the coupon as well. This is the first time I Love NY will designate advertising dollars for retail promotion. It is a rare opportunity to get a concentrated effort on the part of a state agency dedicated to promoting shopping. In order to demonstrate the success of the program and ROI, we are asking participating retailers to track coupon sales where possible and provide the percentage of increased sales from the same period in 2014. An out-of-the-gate success story for this first foray clearly would pave the way to further collaborations. Our statistics show that more than 75% of Canadians surveyed indicate shopping as their top activity when traveling into New York. Our goal is to increase awareness of New York State as a great shopping destination for Canadian citizens. In order to accomplish this goal we need as much participation as possible from our members. Please let Michelle Bruck know as quickly as possible that your store(s) will participate in the promotion. Michelle can be reached at mbruck@retailcouncilnys.com or (800) 442-3589. Participating retailers who would like their property featured in the commercials promoting the program should send any high resolution stills or footage to Rick Machung at this website: https://www.hightail.com/u/RickMachung489161 In addition they should sign the photo release at the following link: ILNYRetailPermissionPhotography and email it to Lisa.Soto@esd.ny.gov
