Community Information & Resources for The Games

 

Taking place from January 12-22, 2022, The Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games is an 11-day international festival and competition that combines high-level sport with educational and cultural events. The Games bring together athletes ages 17-25 from all over the world, making this the largest multi-sport event in the world after the Winter Olympic Games.

 

The following information is here to help you stay informed on how to best navigate and experience the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. Be sure to check back as we will continue to add info and resources.

Parking, Shuttles, and Navigation

Vehicle access to downtown Lake Placid will be restricted between January 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., through January 23, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

Shuttles:

 

  • The “Horse Show Grounds Shuttle” will run on a 24-hour loop between the Horse Show Grounds and the Municipal Lot.
  • The Placid XPRSS will stop at each of the public parking areas (view schedule)
  • The Whiteface Mountain Ski Shuttle will offer a Games-specific schedule.

Tickets should be purchased online. While some events will have the option to purchase at the door, visitors will be directed to pay online with a credit card. This information is subject to change.

Applications will be reviewed and approved applicants will receive their pass via USPS First Class Mail to the address that was listed on the application.

Main Street is only open to vehicular traffic from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily, for deliveries and those with a parking pass. There will be no exceptions.

 

Main Street returns to regular traffic flow on January 23 at 9 a.m.

Three shuttles will be running throughout the Games:

  • The Placid XPRSS will have a special schedule for the Games.
  • The Whiteface Mountain Ski Shuttle will be running with numerous stops in the Lake Placid area.
  • A “Horse Show Grounds Shuttle” will run between the Horse Show Grounds parking area and the Municipal Lot. This shuttle will run on a continuous loop, 24 hours a day.

The shuttles are free to ride and can provide convenient transportation to venues, hotels, and various locations around the region.

Shuttles can be flagged to stop for you along the routes, as long as it is safe to do so.

Public parking will be available at:

 

  • Lake Placid Marina (24 George & Bliss Lane)
  • Lake Placid Club Golf House (88 Morningside Drive)
  • North Elba Horseshow Grounds (5514 Cascade Road)

At their lodging property, open public parking lots, or the Horse Show Grounds located at 5514 Cascade Road.

In addition to the public parking and parking pass lots, additional parking for local and regional community members is available in the High Peaks Resort upper parking lot for the duration of The Games. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday parking is also available for local residents at Dr. Balestrini’s Office (Lake Placid Family Dental).

A shuttle or other arrangements will be utilized to assist those who require accommodation for the duration of the Games.

Those who require assistance should request a Handicapped Access Lake Placid Parking Permit at the time of the request.

Those who reside on Main Street and have a valid disability will be assisted with both ingress and egress by Public Safety personnel.

Yes. There will be temporary drop-off-only parking spots reserved in the Upper NBT lot for deliveries from services such as FedEx and UPS.

The Post Office will be accessible via Parkside drive. While there will be no parking on Parkside Drive, you may temporarily park in front of the Post Office or in the small parking lot in the back to get your mail and other conduct other USPS business.

The Lake Placid 2023 Games Festival on Main Street

 

During the games, a celebration will be held for 10 days on Main Street in Lake Placid starting January 13. Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and the street will turn into a lively festival, featuring an array of unique activities and entertainment.

 

The festival will include:

  • Free nightly live music and entertainment, including stilt walkers and poi dancers
  • Medal award ceremonies in Mid’s Park
  • Special opportunities for shopping and dining
  • Warming igloos and fire pits, perfect for sipping cocoa and making s’mores
  • Daily activities, games, demonstrations, and more.
