Lake Placid & the High Peaks

ROOST Efforts in Supporting the Lake Placid/High Peaks Region

As the accredited Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Essex County, ROOST is responsible for promoting Lake Placid and the High Peaks region to the traveling public.

We do this with staff dedicated to both leisure and conference marketing and sales, and by supporting the business associations that provide services to the region’s businesses.

LEISURE MARKETING

  • In addition to operating a visitors center on Main Street in Lake Placid, ROOST hosts, manages, maintains, develops content, performs search engine optimization and executes paid campaigns for the destination website, LakePlacid.com
  • The communications team hosts travel writers to secure editorial coverage and in-house staff maintains several social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube channel, and Pinterest board.

MEETING MARKET / CONFERENCE SALES

The sales strategy for the Conference Center at Lake Placid is conducted cooperatively by the Lake Placid CVB/Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) and the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA). The strategy includes attracting a combination of regional day business, and multi-day, town-wide conferences, which are typically booked up to four years in advance.

Our office also maintains the meetings website: MeetingsLakePlacid.com

DMP

Lake Placid was included in the Destination Master Planning process that began in 2007.

The resulting vision for Lake Placid was to grow its tourism economy while making tourism a better fit for the community; seek a balance among event-based, recreational and leisure tourism patronage; contribute to a greater quality of life for residents and be a “greener” year-round destination.

The challenge for Lake Placid is to find a path that enables the tourism economy to grow while managing or reducing any negative impacts from tourism on both local lifestyles and the visitor experience itself.
