22 Feb STAFF SPOTLIGHT: BETHANY VALENZE
Where do you live?
I’m currently living in Saranac Lake.
Where are you from?
Born and raised in Lake Placid.
How long have you worked at ROOST?
I’ve worked with ROOST for 2 years and 9 months.
My job title is Visitor Service Specialist.
1-2 sentence description of your job duties:
I assist visitors with any questions or concerns they may have regarding Lake Placid and the surrounding areas. I also help with special events put on by ROOST and Lake Placid.
What do you like about working at ROOST?
I enjoy how well the staff works together and how everyone shares the same goals of improvement. Everyone is so encouraging and supportive, which makes for a great work environment.
What are your three favorite things to do outside of work?
Outside of work I love to hike, play softball, and anything that involves being on the water. Any chance I get to be outside, I’m taking it!
Tell us about your pets and/or children.
I have a rescue dog named Bailey and she’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. She loves adventures, ice cream, and fireplaces as much as I do. She’s a little firecracker, but she’s such an amazing dog.
If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?
I would love to have the ability to teleport. Sometimes, I enjoy driving around with the windows down and the music blaring, but more times than not I’m rushing around minutes before I have to leave. It would give me so much more time throughout my day if I would just get to where I need to be with the snap of my fingers! Time is of the essence when you work full-time and go to school full-time.
Who is your hero and why?
My grandmother (Mema) is my hero for more reasons than I can list. She served in the Air Force; managed to travel across the country with 7 kids and a van; raised a large family with a firm set of rules and oatmeal cream pie cookies; and she’s fighting one of the toughest fights right now. She’s managed all of us while still being the sweetest, strongest, most caring women I have ever met. She set the standards very high for our family and we all look up to her so much.
