In 2005 - 2006 Mid's Park was renovated to the spectacular setting that it is today. Since then it has become an enhanced cultural community center.
The Paul White Memorial Bandshell was not included in the original renovation project. It was decided to focus on the Park itself and address the renovation of the Bandshell at a later time. Well, it's that time. Constructed in 1977, the Bandshell has become structurally deficient and is in need of replacement. Also, the size and shape of the existing structure is limiting for the current Lake Placid Sinfonietta which plays in Mid's Park often throughout the summer months.
After months of collecting public input and with the volunteer help of Andrew Chary, who designed the structure, and Ivan Zdrahal, who designed the site, a new Bandshell has been designed with many improvements. The new Bandshell is 25% larger, and is fully weather protected. The structure is moved into the corner and raised, providing a better view of the stage and of Mirror Lake. The site will be altered to accommodate a mobility accessible ramp to the stage, with a flattened seating area in front of the stage and a sitting wall near the shoreline. Storm water controls have been added to protect the water quality of Mirror Lake. Below is drawing of the proposed new Bandshell:
Mid's Park is a Village Park, but unfortunately, the Village does not have the funding available to construct the new Bandshell. The Bandshell is a community benefit, so we are asking for funding "partners" to make this a reality for residents and visitors alike.
